IRS Introduces Email Notification Options for Direct Pay and EFTPS

The IRS has announced that it is now offering an email notification option for Direct Pay and the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS). This new feature sends notifications to taxpayers’ personal email accounts about their payments.

EFTPS users can receive notifications about:

    • Reminder to schedule payment
    • Payment has been modified or canceled
    • Payment has been processed
    • Address change confirmation

For Direct Pay, individual taxpayers need to sign up for email updates each time they make a payment. For EFTPS, individual and business taxpayers can sign up for email one time and they’ll receive the messages each time they pay with EFTPS. Taxpayers can cancel the email notification option at any time.

To protect taxpayers from potential phishing scams, the email notifications will not contain any links to websites.
